Your Noon Briefing: BAFTA Scotland new talent awards, training on feature writing, etc

A CALL for entries has been issued by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts in Scotland, for its New Talent Awards.

Says BAFTA Scotland: “Students and emerging professionals in the moving image industries in Scotland are invited to submit films, documentaries, animation, original music, entertainment programmes and games works for consideration.

“Entries should be submitted by Friday 15 January 2016.”

BEGINS the website, Daily Business: “The head of Scotland’s largest communications agency The BIG Partnership has criticised other operators in the industry of using interns as ‘slave labour’.

“Alex Barr, founder, announced that all interns at BIG will now be paid the voluntary living wage of £8.25 per hour.

“The company has called for the eradication of unpaid internships across the PR, media and marketing industries.”

TRAINING on feature writing is being hosted by the National Union of Journalists – next Tuesday, in Glasgow.

The trainer will be Jean Rafferty and, says the NUJ: “The course is challenging, inter-active and fun. It covers building a feature, structure and interviewing. The final session, pitching, has helped even experienced professionals raise their hit rate.

“Rafferty, who was twice nominated for the UK Press Awards as feature writer of the year, has taught in universities, schools and on many workshops abroad, in countries as diverse as Albania, Sierra Leone and Nepal.

“Her training has been called ‘inspirational’.”
