BUT the place to stay for the visitor to Sri Lanka with a penchant for the delightfully archaic is the 122 year-old Hill Club at Nuwara Eliya, in the centre of the island’s tea-growing area.

High in the hills, it is cool and the weather frequently dismal.

A bit like Scotland, really.
