The Media in Figures: Scotland readership figures for daily and Sunday newspapers

READERSHIP in Scotland of the print edition of the bite-size Independent newspaper, the i, increased by an estimated 19 per cent between April 2011-March 2012 and April last year to March this year.

Says the UK-wide National Readership Survey, its Scotland-only estimate has the i attracting an average readership per issue of 36,000, between April last year and March this year: up 6,000 on 12 months previously.

The figures for the print editions (only) of other daily and Sunday newspapers read as follows:

The Daily Telegraph – an average 44,000 readership per issue between April 2012 and March this year – up four per cent on 12 months previously;

Financial Times – an average 16,000 readership per issue between April 2012 and March this year – no change on 12 months previously;

The Guardian – 42,000, down 26 per cent;

The Independent – 17,000, down 28 per cent;

The Times – 41,000, down 31 per cent;

Daily Express – 106,000, down 26 per cent;

The Daily Mail – 227,000, no change;

Daily Mirror – 46,000, down 49 per cent;

Daily Record – 762,000, down 11 per cent;

Daily Star – 119,000, down 17 per cent;

The Sun – 744,000, down 14 per cent;

Metro – 258,000, down 12 per cent;

The Press and Journal – 195,000, up five per cent;

The Courier – 121,000, down 15 per cent;

The Herald – 124,000, down 22 per cent;

Evening Times – 136,000, down three per cent;

The Scotsman – 113,000, down two per cent;

The Observer – 44,000, down 35 per cent;

The Sunday Telegraph – 49,000, up one per cent;

The Independent on Sunday – 18,000, down 29 per cent;

The Sunday Times – 132,000, down 14 per cent;

The Mail on Sunday – 200,000, down 11 per cent;

Sunday Express – 72,000, down 41 per cent;

Sunday People – 19,000, down 59 per cent;
