Torrance votes for PR switch

A FORMER politics correspondent for stv and parliamentary aide to a Tory MP is today joining the ranks of public relations – but it has nothing to do with the Scottish Parliament elections.

David Torrance has joined the Edinburgh office of global PR agency, Edelman, after spending the last year-and-a-half working for David Mundell MP at the House of Commons, during which time he wrote a history of Scotland’s secretaries of state.

But he is not entirely dropping his interest in politics: he has another two Scottish political history books in the pipeline, one of which is an authorised biography of the late George Younger.

He joined stv in late 2001 from the Edinburgh Evening News, where he was a reporter. At stv for four years, he mainly worked for The Week In Politics and Politics Now programmes.
