FANS of the music streaming service, Spotify, can now download an app created by a Scots newspaper design agency who produce, as a sideline, a daily aggregation of who is saying what about new music albums.
AnyDecentMusic.com is the brainchild of Ally Palmer and Terry Watson and provides music lovers with constantly-updated listings of the most critically-acclaimed albums, based on ratings from the leading expert, independent review sources across the world.
The pair’s ‘day job’ comprises designing for a portfolio of mainly international clients, several in Scandinavia.
Says PalmerWatson of its app, which appears to be the only Scots one available on Spotify: “The aim is for the app to become an indispensable aid for Spotify’s huge global audience in selecting what new music to listen to from the music streaming service’s vast and ever-expanding catalogue.
“It is a key expansion of ADM’s mission: to help music lovers get access to a broad range of critical opinion. Spotify is already one of the main ways AnyDecentMusic.com’s thousands of regular online users access the music on the website; the app takes it to a whole new level.
“The focus on the ADM Spotify app is on all contemporary genres, from indie to electronic to hip hop and everything in between.
“Each day we sift through more than 50 music review publications, online and offline. We reckon it’s a fairly representative spread of sources from the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Ireland and Germany. They’re different, but they’re all intelligent, independent and sussed and we think it gives a good cross-section of critical opinion.
“We are not a wholescale review aggregator, automatically sweeping up anything and everything relating to every album release. Everything on ADM has been manually reviewed, selected and added. It’s painstaking work, but it’s a labour of love and it means we don’t clutter the site with reissues and compilations and stuff we know real music fans aren’t interested it.”
The app was built with Edinburgh-based Gecko New Media, who are also behind the ADM website.
