More Parts to be Added to Glasgow Media Quarter

Staff at new headquarters for BBC Scotland and stv might soon be able to find a nearby restaurant, as an alternative to the works canteen.

It follows two plots at Pacific Quay, on the banks of the River Clyde, being put on the market as part of plans to develop the area as a ‘digital media quarter’.

Says current landowners, Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, the plots – one described as a “prominent gateway” – will see the “eastern side of the canting basin at Pacific Quay complete”.

Adds Scottish Enterprise Glasgow: “The gateway plot opens up an opportunity to develop a distinctive iconic building to mark out the entrance to the site. We areproposing an elliptical structure reaching up to five storeys with the potential for a rooftop garden, providing vistas across the river to the city centre. The 1.01 acre site is earmarked for commercial use providing flexible, multi-occupancy studio suites for digital media businesses.”

Adds Colum Halforty, director of infrastructure at SE Glasgow: “This is the most prominent site on the whole development so it’s important that we secure a building that is sympathetic and representative of the creative industries we are looking to attract here.”

Meanwhile, for the other plot – which is adjacent to the current IMAX cinema – the proposal is for a two-storey waterfront pavilion, including a restaurant and bar and ground floor retail space.
